Online Medical Schools – Are They Your Best Option?
Online medical schools and every other type of online schools seem to get a bad rap sometimes. The truth is that there are some cons about taking only classes online but, there are also a whole bunch of pros as well. Many people will tell you that if you get an online degree and go for a job while someone with a regular degree is applying as well, you will not get the job. Now, that is simply not true. The hiring manager will look at you both with an even eye because you have taken the same exact classes but one was online and the other was not.
There are several disadvantages to going to an online medical school such as Kaplan College. The first and maybe largest disadvantage is, you don’t get that face time that you would get with your teacher if you weren’t online.
Another disadvantage to taking an online medical school’s classes would be that there is always a delay in trying to get help. What this means is that, in a regular class you raise your hand and ask your question, then you get an answer right away. With an online class, you have to email the instructor and wait until they have read and replied. The last disadvantage would have to be that you don’t meet anyone that maybe you could study with. There may not be a way to communicate with others in the class.
Now, when people say that there is no face to face time, it’s just not true. Maybe physically you can’t see your teacher, but you can email anytime you want and there is always a room that your instructor stays during school hours. Also, when people say that you can not find a study partner or make any friends because there is no communication, that’s also false. Most online medical schools provide classes that have chat rooms connected. This way you have communication with other students almost all day. Besides the chat room, many teachers give assignments that make you work with others either through email or chat.
The pro’s for taking going to an online school are very large. With a regular school, books are a large cost that many people struggle to pay. With an online college many things that you need are already online and free. So these will be cheaper then a regular school. Also, the time of the classes are way more flexible. If you are a single mother or are working two or three jobs, this is the best fit for you. Lastly, most schools take almost half the time it takes to get a regular degree. It saves you a lot of money and time.
These types of schools may have a couple down falls but so do all other schools. If you are interested in getting involved with the medical field then you should consider checking out some online medical schools. They are a lower cost alternative and they will prepare you just as well as any other college program out there.
